§ 04Wood

Know the wood, then choose the object.

Color, grain, hardness and scent shape how an object is used and how it ages. These are the three woods we work with most.

American black walnut
American black cherry
European beech

§ 04.2Over time

Color changes. That is wood being honest.

Drag the slider to see roughly which way each wood moves in light. We agree an acceptable color range at the sample stage and match production to it.

  • Walnut

    Lightens and warms

  • Cherry

    Deepens gradually

  • Beech

    Changes little, yellowing slightly

Illustration: actual change depends on light and environment

§ 04.3Finish

Wax oil: the grain stays under your hand.

We mostly use wax oil. It soaks into the surface rather than forming a thick film, so the wood keeps its natural touch, and worn areas can be re-oiled locally. For other finishes, tell us in your inquiry and we confirm feasibility.

01Penetrates
No thick lacquer film
02Renewable
Worn areas re-oiled locally
03Warm to touch
Grain stays tactile

§ 04.4Questions

What buyers ask when choosing wood.

Will the photo match the real color?

Screens and lighting change how color looks. For anything that matters, decide on the physical sample.

Will every piece look identical?

No two boards are alike, but dimensions, structure and an acceptable color range can be agreed. For displayed sets, approve the whole set as a sample.

How do I care for an oiled finish?

Wipe with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth, avoid soaking and strong sun, and re-oil lightly if it looks dry.

Will the wood crack or warp?

Wood moves with humidity. Tell us where the product will be used, and we will account for it in material and construction.

Choose a wood for your use.

Tell us the use, budget and market, and we will suggest a suitable wood and finish.
